Lakeside Community Primary School, formed in September 2004 after the amalgamation of Southgate Infant & Nursery School and Wilmorton Community Primary School, caters for children aged between 3-11 and we currently provide for around 650 learners and their families.
Our beautiful modern school has four units, each unit having its own team of excellent staff who in turn are assisted by fantastic office staff and a kitchen and facilities management team who help us to avoid hunger, stay warm and have a clean place to learn!
The Early Years Foundation Stage Unit (3-5 years) Nursery and Reception
The Onwards Unit (5-8years) Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3
The Upwards Unit (8-11 years) Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6
The Reaching Unit (7-11 years) Year 3 to Year 6
The whole school is housed in a state of the art building completed July 2006 on the busy A6. We have a large playing field, extensive play space around the school, Sensory Room and a large hi-tech ICT suite. The building is an imaginative design built as part of a Private Funding Initiative (PFI) project with the facilities management being undertaken by Vinci Partnerships.
In November 2004 we started an exciting new project, a Nurture Group (The Reaching Unit). This caters for up to 12 children (7-11) who are in need of small group educational sessions to help them get back into ‘mainstream’ education as their previous placements have broken down. They come from all areas of Derby. This is evidence that Local Authority recognise of our expertise in educating children with particularly challenging needs. This provision shows the inclusive nature of our school.
There is also a Children’s Centre on the site and together we are known as ‘Lakeside Community Village’. This facility is available to all families in the area, not just the families of children who come to the school and looks to provide a range of services for children between 0 and 7 and their families. Pop in and see them for more information.
